How will you store your food so that it will have a maximum shelf life. You have to consider that food, such as meat, stored in a freezer are vulnerable to power outages. To be sure your meat is secure, you'll have to find an alternate method of storing it. For grains, nuts, and seeds, oxygen absorbers and mylar bags can be used to prevent spoilage for years. To keep the mice from getting into those bags, they can be stored in plastic bins, or better yet, stainless steel garbage cans. Canning is an age old method for making the harvest last long after the final picking.
